A Selection from our Comments Book:

The Tin Hat Centre is great and offers a wide range of facilities.  The reception staff are very helpful and always friendly and welcoming.  I work with students in the cafe, which is also friendly and accommodating and use the computer which is convenient.  I see people coming in to do lots of different things from Sugar Craft, to learning a new language, to playing Boccia bowls.  It really benefits the local community and provides somewhere that people of all ages can meet up and learn new skills whilst also socialising with others.                                                                                             Jackie Winfield 2010

My introduction to the Tin Hat Centre was in Autumn 2005, when I decided to 'Brush up your French' with June Smith.  I had only lived in the area a short time and came across the Tin Hat leaflet at the Selston Library.  The French course was for one term only, but very appropriate to my needs, as I was going on holiday to France in the December that year.  June made the course fun to learn French again, as quite a few years had lapsed since my schooldays.  Subsequently, in 2009,after being out of action for some time, I decided to take up another interest and found that Tai Chi was on offer at the Centre, which initially had a 14 weeks free term.  This course was then and still is run by Elaine Clarke and I enjoy these classes to this day.  In November last year, all the Tai Chi classes at the Tin Hat Centre came together to demonstrate Tai Chi at the Selston festival and Craft Fair, which we all enjoyed working towards and showing on the day.  I look up on  the Tin Hat Centre as a venue for not only learning, but the opportunity for exercising and making new friends.  The in house Cafe gives me the option to stay after class if I wish and although there have been changes over the years in the cafe, it would be a great loss if the facility of being able to have a drink or light snack should no longer be available.  Because the Centre is not a large one, it is much more personable than attending a course at a local College.  It is, of course, an advantage that it also has free car parking facilities.  The Staff in reception are friendly and welcoming and always extremely helpful, even though I'm sure their days are busy.  I am always happy recommending the Tin Hat Centre to friends and I hope to be able to continue supporting the Centre and enjoying attending courses for many years to come.                                                                                                                        Linda Williams 2010

"I always enjoy teaching at The Tin Hat Centre as there is always a lovely atmosphere in the building and a very friendly welcome at reception. The staff are very helpful, and remain good humoured despite my numerous requests for more and more paper for the photocopier. Long Live The Tin Hat Centre!"
June Smith, November 2008

"I have been using the centre and the cafe for over a year to date, usually having a half hours use of the (now lonely) computer with a coffee and cake for accompaniment. I have always found the centre to be spotless, the cafe friendly, reception staff well informed and excellent car parking. I would recommend anybody in the parish who has a little free time to come along and see just what The Tin Hat Centre has to offer. Keep up the good work - as they say!"
Steve Haslam, November 2008

"The students and tutors of the Basic Skills class wish to commend the efficiency and kindness of the staff who are responsible for the daily running of the Tin Hat. They are always on hand to sort out any minor problems and are unfailingly kind and helpful to the students. The Tin Hat is a pleasure to come to, not only because of the excellent cafeteria but also because of the way in which the rooms are clean, bright and pleasant to study in. Most of all, we appreciate the warmth and helpfulness of the staff, who always make us feel welcome. We hope to enjoy the facilities of the Tin Hat for a long time to come. Thank you."
Vic & Silver Morris, Kirkby Community College, on behalf of the students of the Basic Skills class

"Having recently moved to Selston it is a delight to find this 'Oasis'. Well run, polite and helpful staff, and not a bad piece of cake in the cafe!. This is a facility that I hope will go from strength to strength and will always have funding."
Hazel Channon, 26th July 2005

"Everyone has been wonderfully helpful and generous with their time each occasion I came in to use the internet here. I work at a university in Perth, Australia, and have been staying locally for 3 months and have come in fairly frequently. All kinds of help has been generously given, especially from Mark with the computer and Janice with general information at the desk. I'll be back! Many thanks."

"We have been in this area for 2 weeks and have found the Tin Hat Centre an asset. We have only used the internet facility but the range of other services and activities conducted here is most impressive. If other communities we visit have equivalent services we will be most pleased. It is a community service that should be provided on a much wider scale."
Ron and Lesley Nunn, New South Wales, Australia, 18th July 2003
